Although
temari making is a traditional Japanese handicraft, many people around the world
have now fallen under it's spell. Most temari makers are clustered in small
groups which are found all over the world. Thankfully, due to the Internet, we
can share our craft with others in every corner of the planet.
October 22, 2010 will be the
first celebration of International Temari Appreciation Day (ITAD). Rebecca
Armstrong-Koelma from Perth, Western Australia, first thought about starting a
celebration day for temari making in 2009. There are many special observance
days celebrated around the world and when Doughnut Day was celebrated by America
in early June 2010, Rebecca decided that if doughnuts could have a day surely
temari should have one too. She asked the international temari making community
and they agreed. Since then an official website has been opened to share

been suggested by temari makers worldwide.
Hoewel
Temari een Japanse borduurkunst is, wordt momenteel deze handwerkkunst
over de hele wereld beoefend. De meeste Temari makers vormen kleine groepjes en
zijn overal ter wereld te vinden. Dankzij internet kunnen ze informatie
uitwisselen over onze handwerkunst naar ieder op de aarde.
22 Oktober 2010 willen we voor het eerst de Internationale Temari Dag vieren.
Rebecca Armstrong-Koelma uit Perth- West Australië heeft deze gedachte in 2009
gelanceerd. Er zijn vele speciale herdenkingsdagen wereldwijd. Er is zelfs
begin juni in Amerika een Donut Dag. Rebecca was van mening dat als
er een Donut Dag kon zijn er minstens ook een Temari Dag moest komen. Zij vroeg
de Internationale Temari gemeenschap om toestemming en zij gingen akkoord.
Sindsdien heeft Rebecca een website ontwikkeld om de informatie uit
